Okay so this blog is totally out of order. . .at least chronological order that is. . .here are some shots from my trip to Brasil in 2004. . .the far left is one of the many amazing rodas. . .we were seeing so many rodas everyday we got spoiled. . .I get back to NYC and I'm like. . .where are the rodas? Anyway. . .second from the left is me at the Ipanema Beach. . .top center is me at Pao de Azucar. . .second right is me in front of some graffiti at Ipanema. . .far right Mestre Camisa's batizado. . . Look at all that beautiful color! And bottom center is Mestranda Edna Lima in one of the many spontaneous jodas during the week. . .Unique shot right?
A lot of people slept on this series. It was showing on Sundance and then of course I rented all the episodes from Netflix. This was done for Brasilian TV by the people who did City of God. I think my favorite episode if from Season One. Where they show the playboy and Tarangina and how they are both similar even though they live in such different economic circumstances. Really touching, really well done. As I was watching the series, I thought, 'No American TV company would ever produce anything this good'. Its because each episode is really entertaining but deals with hardcore issues of race and class. Defintely a must see for those of you who haven't caught it yet. When I get the funds I'm going to add the series to my film 'library'.
